Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
In short: we keep only what we need to deliver your license and let you activate it. There's no tracking, no analytics and no advertising, on the website or in the app.
Who is responsible
Simone Giammusso, VAT number IT02180360857, is the data controller for the data described here. Contact: support@snowfallmac.com.
Payments are handled by Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record, which processes your payment details, billing address and tax information as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. We never see your card details.
What we store
- Your email address, which Paddle passes to us after your purchase, to send you your license and download link and to send them again if you ask on the recover page.
- Your license: the license key, the Paddle transaction and customer IDs, its status (active or revoked) and the dates it was created or revoked.
- The Macs where you activate Snowfall, up to 3: a machine identifier, which is a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID, not the ID itself; the computer name set in System Settings, so you can tell your Macs apart; the app version; and when the Mac was activated and last checked in.
- Download counts per license per day, to stop shared keys from being abused.
- Recovery requests: a one-way hash of the email address and the time of the last request, to send at most one email every 10 minutes.
What the app sends
- Activation: your license key, the machine identifier, the computer name and the app version, once.
- License check: about every 3 days, when online, the app sends its activation token (license key and machine identifier) to check that the license hasn't been refunded.
- Update checks: the app downloads the public list of versions from our website, through the Sparkle update framework, and downloads updates with its activation token. These requests carry nothing else about you beyond what any web request does (your IP address and the app version).
Snowfall reads the positions and sizes of windows, desktop icons and the Dock to draw snow on them. That information stays on your Mac. The app never reads the contents of your windows or what you type, and sends no usage data.
The website
The website sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics. The home page loads Paddle's checkout script, which may use cookies and similar technologies needed for payment and fraud prevention, under Paddle's privacy policy.
Where the data is kept
The website, the license server and its database run on Google Firebase (Google Cloud), in the European Union (Belgium, europe-west1). Server logs, which include IP addresses, are kept for up to 30 days. Emails are sent through Resend (Resend, Inc.).
Why we may process it
To perform our contract with you (delivering and activating the license you bought), and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse of license keys. We keep license data for as long as the license exists and as required by accounting and tax law; ask us and we'll delete what we're not required to keep, which also deactivates the license.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format, by writing to support@snowfallmac.com. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll publish the new version here with a new date.
